Rezoning Hub vs PlanningAlerts

Free DA email alerts for citizens, with a paid commercial API.

What PlanningAlerts is

PlanningAlerts is a long-running civic service from the OpenAustralia Foundation. It scrapes development applications from councils across the country and emails residents when something is lodged near an address they care about. For a free, public-interest tool it has remarkable council breadth, and its commercial API is a genuine option if all you need is a national DA feed.

PlanningAlerts charges $3,850 + GST a month for commercial API access to its DA feed. That single month is roughly ten months of our entire platform on the Team plan, or about a year and a half on Pro.

Where we are ahead

  • Rezoning is the whole point. We track a proposal from lodgement to gazettal and alert you when a stage moves. PlanningAlerts is DA-only.
  • A zoning map you can read, not just a text feed. State zoning, overlays, identify and draw to watch.
  • API access starts at $385 a month on Team, against $3,850 + GST for the PlanningAlerts commercial API.
  • Records are typed and sourced, so every date and document carries where it came from and when we fetched it.

Where PlanningAlerts is ahead

  • Council breadth for raw DAs. PlanningAlerts scrapes development applications nationwide today; our DA coverage is NSW first.
  • Free for a resident watching their own street.

The bottom line

If you only need a free email when a neighbour lodges a DA, PlanningAlerts is excellent and you should use it. If your job is to see land enter a rezoning pathway before the market prices it in, read the zoning, and watch parcels and areas, that is what Rezoning Hub is built for, and our API is a tenth of their commercial price.
