Coverage, honestly

Our intent is every jurisdiction in Australia. The order we get there is set by how each government publishes its data: some have open APIs, some have bot walls, one has no register at all. Here is exactly where things stand; this page changes as coverage lands.

New South Wales

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, official colours, updated weekly
Rezonings
Live: every planning proposal, checked 4× daily
Applications
Live: every development application since 2024, daily

NSW publishes the most machine-readable planning data in the country: open APIs for proposals, DAs and spatial layers.

Victoria

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, updated weekly
Rezonings
Live: all 11,000+ scheme amendments with stage history, nightly
Applications
Coming: permits are held council-by-council, not in one register

Victoria's Amendments Online API is excellent; planning permits unfortunately have no statewide feed.

Western Australia

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, official zone families, updated weekly
Rezonings
Next: WA uniquely publishes advertised scheme amendments as map layers
Applications
Planned

WA's open spatial data carries every council's Local Planning Scheme zones; we bake them into the weekly tileset and colour each by planning family. The register adapter is queued next.

Tasmania

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, statewide Tasmanian Planning Scheme zones, updated weekly
Rezonings
Next: amendment pages sit behind bot protection we handle politely
Applications
Planned

Tasmania runs one statewide Planning Scheme, published open via the LIST, so a single dataset colours the whole state. The planning commission's amendment register needs a gentler, slower fetcher.

ACT

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, Territory Plan zones, updated weekly
Rezonings
Next: variations are a plain HTML register
Applications
Planned

The ACT runs one territory-wide Territory Plan and publishes the zones layer openly; it joins our weekly tile build as a full vector layer. The variation register is a plain HTML page we read next.

South Australia

Zoning map
Live: full vector map, official zone codes, updated weekly from the statewide Planning and Design Code
Rezonings
Blocked, workaround in progress: the Code Amendment Register sits behind bot protection
Applications
Planned: SA has a unified portal once register access is solved

SA has run one statewide Planning and Design Code since 2021, and PlanSA publishes the whole Zones layer as an open CC BY download, so a single dataset colours the entire state. The amendment register and applications still sit behind web infrastructure that blocks polite crawlers; we're building a compliant fetcher for those.

Queensland

Zoning map
Brisbane City Council live: full vector map, official City Plan 2014 zone families, updated weekly. The rest of QLD is coming council by council (Gold Coast, Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast are verified and queued).
Rezonings
Hard: rezonings only appear as gazette notices in PDF
Applications
Planned per council

Queensland has no statewide zoning. Each council authors its own scheme, so coverage means landing councils one at a time. Brisbane City Council publishes its whole City Plan 2014 zoning overlay as an open CC BY download, so it is live as our first QLD council; we colour it by the same planning families as the states. The rest of Queensland follows council by council, and there is no statewide planning register at all.

The NT publishes the least machine-readable planning data of any jurisdiction. If it becomes accessible, we'll ingest it.
